Dan Roberage
Hi, Melissa. How are you?

Melissa Johnston
Good. How are you?

Dan Roberage
I'm very good, very good. So where are we today?

Melissa Johnston
We are at the advantage seniors, I don't know. They keep changing the name.

Dan Roberage
I know, I know, I know. So how long you been coming to the show?

Melissa Johnston
This is my first time, actually.

Dan Roberage
Okay, so now where are you from? Like, what city?

Melissa Johnston
Clinton, Ontario.

Dan Roberage
And where's that?

Melissa Johnston
Do you know where Exeter is? Between kind of Exeter and Goderich.

Dan Roberage
Okay. Very nice, very nice. So, well, what's your role in what you do right now?

Melissa Johnston
So I work at Huron View Home for the aged, and I am the manager of iPAC, and I manage environmental services. So laundry and housekeeping.

Dan Roberage
So, in the housekeeping side of things, how many people report to you?

Melissa Johnston
About 15.

Dan Roberage
Okay.

Melissa Johnston
Yeah.

Dan Roberage
What are some of the things that happen that you find challenging every day with your team? Let's say, like organizing them? Communication? What type of things do you find challenging?

Melissa Johnston
Yeah, I would say communication with, room turnovers or just constantly between maintenance and our staff communicating what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. Timelines.

Dan Roberage
Okay, so there is a maintenance person that's a maintenance lead. So do you coordinate a lot together to be able to get the people in and out of the rooms and so on? And what do you use to do that? Like do you just kind of call each other up?

Melissa Johnston
Yes or email.

Dan Roberage
Okay. Yeah. How big is the home?

Melissa Johnston
120 beds.

Dan Roberage
Okay. So that's pretty big. And so how long you've been doing this role?

Melissa Johnston
I've actually only been doing it for six months. My background is in a hospital.

Dan Roberage
Okay.

Melissa Johnston
So this is very new for me. It's a lot of differences between hospital and long term care.

Dan Roberage
In what way? Like what would you say?

Melissa Johnston
Something I'd say is regulations.

Dan Roberage
Okay.

Melissa Johnston
My background is emerge nursing and management in emerge. So its just very different, like in a hospital, and maybe I shouldn't say this, but it's way less regulated, which I would have thought it would be the opposite.

Dan Roberage
We found that too. I mean, we've been doing this for 20 years, and that was one of the things that makes Maintenance Care successful, is the preventative maintenance and the compliance. But there's so much compliance in every aspect of the of the building. And so I guess Ontario is also the strictest. That's what we find. Yeah. And so you're getting that same experience, but you're enjoying it. I love that this is your first time at the show. So what do you plan to do here?

Melissa Johnston
Well, just check out everything. I'm looking forward to tonight to listen to Lisa Genova speak. And tomorrow night is Nashville night, so that'll be fun, too.

Dan Roberage
Excellent, excellent. Well, thank you for coming by and speaking to me. We'll talk after if you want. Thank you.

Melissa Johnston
Bye.
