Excellent. Excellent. So, tell me a little bit about yourself. Who are you and why are you here?
Jean Bonnet
Well, my name is Jean Bonnet. I am from Ottawa. And the reason me being here today is, with my exceptional group, Kasper. We work as a team. I am a PSW, which is, something that I thoroughly enjoy.
Dan Roberage
And how long you've been doing that?
Jean Bonnet
Not long. Actually. I graduated, in June 2023.
Dan Roberage
Okay. So I was talking to Lolo, and she was saying that we were, you know, I think the industry in something like 48,000 or something like that by a certain year is like, there's a huge need for for people to fill this role.
Jean Bonnet
Absolutely. And I don't think that that there's enough awareness, about it, and as you have stated, yes, there's a shortage of staffing. Yeah. By, 2027, we need to fill at least a 48,000, positions or vacant positions.
Dan Roberage
Just because the population is getting older, and then there's going to be an influx of boomers?
Jean Bonnet
Yes. And, preparedness, just to take care of the population is a necessity, in health care, but more so for PSW.
Dan Roberage
And what does your team do, though? What's this, getyourpsw.ca that you have? What is it?
Jean Bonnet

Okay. What does it do?
Jean Bonnet
So what they do is, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, in long term care, they offer the training at a no cost. And it is a through the school boards. But it is throughout Ontario.
Dan Roberage
Okay. Right. And to like anybody that wants to become a PSW?
Jean Bonnet
Yes, as long as they're registered through their school board or they inquire, they can, go directly to the website to getyourpsw.ca to gather more information.
Dan Roberage
Okay. And is there an age requirement, like, you have to be out of a certain school, like, do you have to have any post-secondary education? like what are some of the requirements?
Jean Bonnet
Of least the minimum, grade 12, high school education. And they must be at least 18 years old in order to be admitted.
Dan Roberage
And so once you go through the program, then you qualify as being PSW that can work in the senior care industry. Is that how it works?
Jean Bonnet
That is correct. Yes. Now, the theory, learning itself is approximately five months or 700 hours. And plus you have placement, at least three placements. At least 300 hours. And what's good though, once you finish the placement, then you get a fat check for $5,000. So for junior placement, you're earning a little something, which is very, very encouraging.
Jean Bonnet
Yeah. And, what's good about it also is, employment, stability and guarantee is right there, because as soon as you finish the program, and you obtain your diploma, then you're guaranteed to be hired. And, such as was the case for me, even before I finished completing the program.
Dan Roberage
People were coming after you?
Jean Bonnet
Yes, exactly. Yes. And, it was motivating to see that. Well, there's a need, you know. It is something to look forward to.
Dan Roberage
Yeah, it's a very big need. And so you got to pick what you wanted to do. And so what made you choose this line of business?
Jean Bonnet
Well, I was looking for a new challenge, in 2023. Before that, I was a senior claims analyst, and, I felt invisible, like I was always, you know, behind a computer doing analytics. And I figured maybe it's time for me to look for a new challenge.
Dan Roberage
Wow. That is a totally different calling that you went through. And you love it, though?
Jean Bonnet
It is one that I would recommend to anyone that is looking for a fulfilling and satisfying way to make a living.
Dan Roberage
Amazing.

It is one that that is beyond my expectations. I could not compare what it has brought to me versus what I did before.
