Dan Roberge
Hello Tara. How are you? So. So where are we today?
Tara Morelli
Avantage Ontario Long-Term Care Conference.
Dan Roberge
Yeah. So we're in Toronto, downtown Toronto. So how many years have you been coming to this show?
Tara Morelli
It's my third year.
Dan Roberge
Okay. And what do you do when you come here? What's the typical routine for you?
Tara Morelli
I like to network with some colleagues around the sector. It's my second year being a speaker. And definitely check out the vendors.
Dan Roberge
Okay. Excellent. So you're doing a speaking engagement. What's the topic this year?
Tara Morelli
Transition and change in long-term care.
Dan Roberge
Wow, and so you have no problems talking in public?
Tara Morelli
well, I do it, and it's quite a challenge.
Dan Roberge
Okay. Very good. What's the what's the audience size? You think that's going to be this time around?
Tara Morelli
We actually just did it this morning. So, around 120 people.
Dan Roberge
Oh, okay. Oh, so you did it already? Oh, wow. Amazing. That's a lot of people. And everything went well.
Tara Morelli
Yes, very well. I spoke on a panel, so it's nice to have some colleagues around me.
Dan Roberge
You're an administrator at your home? So how long have you been doing that?
Tara Morelli
Ive been an administrator since 2020.
Dan Roberge
Okay.
Tara Morelli
Previously, director of care. Nurse by trade.
Dan Roberge
Oh, wow. At the same location?
Tara Morelli
Yes.
Dan Roberge
So what have you seen as far as changes in that time period from when you started as an administrator until now? Any major changes in the industry?
Tara Morelli
Well yes, because we went through Covid in the pandemic.
Dan Roberge
Right. When you started. Oh, wow.
Tara Morelli
Right when I started. I started in April of 2020. A lot of changes, but for the good. I think throughout the pandemic and long term care, really kind of learned a lot of lessons. And it is nice to see the sector starting to be more responsive.
Dan Roberge
Yeah. It's like trial by fire. You got in there. You had the biggest challenges, and now you get to settle in. Are you settling in the in the job?
Tara Morelli
Yes.
Dan Roberge
So you use maintenance care at your site as well. So do you get reports from the software, like on what the maintenance team does on a frequency basis?
Tara Morelli
Yes, so I work at crest long term care home, but we have multiple other sites as well. So I do get all of the maintenance reports for all the long term care sites. See what's outstanding, what's been completed.
Dan Roberge
Oh, wow. Okay. And you find that useful, on your communication.
Tara Morelli
Its awesome! You know when you're across multiple sites, you can know exactly what's going on, what's outstanding, and what's not. If there's any barriers, because you can't always be right on site.
Dan Roberge
Yeah, exactly. So in your position, what would you say is the biggest challenge for your type of job?
Tara Morelli
I would say communication, keeping in touch with everyone.
Dan Roberge
All the different departments and everybody coming to you, and back and forth, and all that.
Tara Morelli
Yes.
Dan Roberge
Well, thank you very much. It was great talking to you. I appreciate it. And maybe next year you're going to do another speaking engagement because it was so successful this year, right? Awesome. Well, thank you very much.
Tara Morelli
Thank you.
